Williams Tower, the iconic office tower next to The Galleria, has sold to its namesake tenant for more than $300M. This is the largest single-property office sale in Houston since 2019, according to Green Street News.
Williams Tower at 2800 Post Oak Blvd. in Houston
The Williams Cos. purchased the tower at 2800 Post Oak Blvd. from Williams Tower LP, an entity tied to Dallas’ Invesco Real Estate. The transaction closed Monday.
Invesco purchased the 64-story, 1.4M SF building in 2013 for $412M, the Houston Chronicle reports. The property was appraised at close to $287M earlier this year, according to records from the Harris Central Appraisal District.
Although Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Williams Cos. doesn’t have plans to relocate its headquarters to Houston at this time, Glen Jasek, Williams’ senior vice president of transmission, power and Gulf, told the Houston Business Journal that by purchasing the tower, the company is gaining a stronger foothold in Houston.
“The acquisition of Williams Tower reflects our continued commitment to investing in our employees and the long-term future of our business,” Kyle Tarpley, a Williams Cos. spokesperson, told Bisnow. “Houston has played a significant role in Williams’ history, and ownership of this landmark property provides greater flexibility to support our workforce, strengthen our presence in the city and position the company for continued growth in the years ahead.”
Jasek told the HBJ the tower is 83% leased and the company is setting aside extra space for its own future expansion. Williams plans to add 100 employees to its more than 700 by the end of the year.
Williams came to Houston in 1995 when it purchased the building’s anchor tenant, Transco Energy Co. Four years later, the tower was renamed in honor of the energy infrastructure giant.
Houston logged $1.1B of office sales in the first half of 2026, up from $876M a year prior, according to Avison Young. Private investors and owner-users like Williams accounted for the bulk of deals this year as they scooped up properties well below replacement cost. Houston has led the country in discounted office sales for the last few years.
Williams hadn’t provided a comment to Bisnow as of press time.
